TRIBAL CHILD CARE ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA

INFRASTRUCTURE and CAPACITY BUILDING

The Tribal Child Care Association of California (TCCAC) was founded in 2006  through a grass roots movement to bring Tribes and Tribal CCDF Administrators together, in order to unify tribal voices and to align high quality, culturally appropriate resources with tribal child care programs that were not included in the State’s early learning and care vision. TCCAC was first comprised completely of volunteering individuals who work for Tribal lead agencies/grantees administering the federal Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) Block Grant and /or other Tribal child development programs. With the passion and dedication of its original founders and the Tribal membership, TCCAC built relationships with state partners charged with creating an equitable child care system for all California children and families. These relationships between Tribes, state and federal partners are the cornerstone for where the Association is today. TCCAC is now a staffed organization with funding to support our efforts of providing equitable opportunities for Tribal children and families across all of California.  Our partners at CDE believe in and support our ability to build our capacity and infrastructure with a strong foundation to continue our work. The Preschool Development Grant- Renewal activity 5 is funding provided by CDE to TCCAC in order to support capacity building, infrastructure and the sustainability of the organization.

TCCAC began the activities necessary for a strong foundation as we move from an advocating volunteer organization to a fully staffed 501c3 nonprofit association. Here are the current activities:

  • TCCAC has called on the support of our long-time partners at Thrive Community Building to create a clear plan for developing a strong infrastructure in order to build the capacity of TCCAC.
  • We have updated our bylaw and articles of incorporation and expanded our Board of Directors. We are now working on our policies and procedures, ensuring 501c3 designation and compliance.
  • TCCAC Board  of Directors and staff have a continual schedule of strategic planning meetings, board meetings, quarterly member and roundtable meetings and committee meetings.
